About the PEWG
The Port Elizabeth Woodturners' Guild was formed in July 1994 with about
14 members. Foremost among them was the late Alec Jardine, and several
of the original members are still active.
The Guild generally meets
at the workshop of one of the members, and also occasionally at
Strand Hardware. The current membership stands at 23.
Competitions in woodturning are held 4 times a year in various classes
and with 3 groups, beginner, intermediate and advanced. The Guild organises
demonstrations in various methods of turning and talks by members or by
qualified outsiders at their monthly meetings. These are held on the third
Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. for 7:00 p.m.
A monthly news letter
is published and sent to most members by e-mail with a few members who do
not have Internet access getting snail mail.
The guild welcomes visitors
who are interested in woodturning and similar crafts.
